Eskimo Curlew

Also known as: Northern Curlew, Prairie Pigeon, Fute, Little Curlew, Doe-bird, Doughbird

36 cm (14") Near extinction. Nests in Arctic tundra, migrates through Great Plains to South America. Has been seen most recently along Texas coast in spring.

Similar to much larger Whimbrel with a shorter thinner bill which is only slightly downcurved. Linings on its raised wings are a pale cinnamon.

Song: a "tee-dee-dee" or repeated "tee-dee".
