Hooded Warbler

Wilsonia citrina

14 cm (5-6") Fairly common. Southeastern United States; enters into Canada in southern Ontario. Swamps, moist deciduous woodlands; dense undergrowth, low branches.

Male: yellow face (forehead, eye and cheek) is surrounded by a black hood (black cap, throat and upper breast). Yellow belly. Tail has white underneath.

Female: blackish or olive crown. Green or dark olive back. Yellow underside; sometimes has black throat or black spots on breast. Tail has white below.

Song: loud clear "weeta wee-tee-o".
