Also known as: Long-crested Jay, Mountain Jay, Pine Jay.
29 cm (11-12") Western North America. Conifer and pine-oak forests.
Black and blue jay. Black crested head. Black back, throat and upper breast. Blue tail, rump, wings and belly.
Common visitor to picnic areas and camp grounds.
Song: low pitched raucous "shack shack shack" and like the Blue Jay it expertly imitates the Red-tailed Hawk, Golden Eagle.
