18 cm (7") Fairly common but shy. Coniferous and mixed forests, along streams, swamps, thickets; in migration other forests, residential areas, parks.
Uniformly brown or gray upperparts. Buffy cheeks. Bold buff eye-ring; no other thrush has such bold spectacles. Whitish underparts. Buff breast is spotted.
Song: rapid flute-like upward spiraling phrases; sharp "whit" call.
