Grouse inhabit temperate coniferous and subarctic regions, pine/spruce forest, moorlands and mountainsides. They are ground-dwellers with feathered nostrils and feathered feet. They are medium-sized birds with moderate to long tails. Males perform elaborate courtship displays. Some birds gather at the same strutting ground or leks each year for these courtship's.
