Waders

Ciconiiformes

Scientific classification
Class: Aves
Order: Waders

Large, long-legged wading birds with large bills. The storks, herons, egrets, ibises, and spoonbills are included. Many species are migratory. Most eat frogs, fish, insects, earthworms, small birds and mammals.

These birds tend to use soaring, gliding flight, which conserves energy.

Nests are often very large and may be used for many years. Some have been known to grow to over 2 m (6 ft) in diameter and about 3 m (10 ft) in depth. They tend to be attached to nests as much as partners.
