Anna's Hummingbird

Calypte anna

10 cm (4") Common in Pacific coastal lowlands, mountains, deserts and gardens. May be found in California in midwinter.

Bill is relatively short for a hummer.

Male: bright red cap and throat with red extending onto side of neck. 

Female: usually has some red on throat.

Song: is given from a perch and is squeaky and grating.
