Band-tailed Pigeon

Patagioenas fasciata

38 cm (15") Western North America. Oak and pine woods, suburban gardens, parks.

Purple head and breast. Yellow bill has a dark tip. Yellow feet. Broad gray band across rounded tail.

In flight; resembles Rock Dove without the white rump.

Seen at water holes and salt licks in large numbers.

Song: owl-like "whoo-whoo".
