Also known as: Marsh Hen
37 cm (15") Fairly common. Salt marshes, also along lower Colorado and Salton Sea.
Grayish brown "marsh hen". Long slightly downcurved bill. Barred sides. Similar to King Rail but it has grayer cheeks.
Song: rapid then slowing "kek kek kek" given usually at dusk or dawn.
