Clark's Grebe

Aechmophorus clarkii

Also known as: Western Grebe, dabchick, swan grebe, swan-necked grebe

64 cm (25") Not as common as Western Grebe. Summers on marshes and lakes, winters on coastal waters, some inland lakes.

Goose-sized grebe with a long swan-like neck. Contrasting black and white, black above, white below; black cap stops just above eye; long thin pointed orange-yellow bill. Very similar Western Grebe has a greenish-yellow bill, its black cap extends below the eye and its wing stripe is less pronounced.

Song: ascending "creek".
