50 cm (19") Thought to be extinct. Last confirmed sightings were in the 1950's.
Resembled a small Pileated Woodpecker but had a black chin, white bill and large white wing patch.
Claimed seen in Arkansas in 2004 after 50 years! Believe when you see a photograph! Loss of habitat probably sealed its fate.
Still a Holy Grail bird!
