15 cm (6") Common. Breeds across northern North America in woodland bogs, swamps, thickets.
Dark upperparts. Heavily streaked light underparts. Told from similar Louisiana Waterthrush by its buffy eyebrow stripe that does not widen behind the eye, lack of contrast between sides and underparts, and duller legs.
Walks with bobbing motion much like the Spotted Sandpiper.
Feeds on the ground near water.
Song: is loud and ringing.
