16 cm (6") Locally common. Southern Texas. Undergrowth.
Unstreaked olive-green back. Brown stripe on each side of the crown. Plain underparts. Looks more like a towhee than a sparrow with its unstreaked back. Similar Green-tailed Towhee has a bright reddish crown.
Song: musical chips, buzzy "speeee" call.
