76-91 cm (30-36") Introduced from Asia. Locally common in open woodlands and on farmlands in brush, hedgerows, and corn fields. A gallinaceous or fowl-like bird that when flushed rises almost straight up.
Male: head is glossy green or purple. Red eye patch. Long pointed tail. Short round wings.
Female: buffy overall. Long pointed tail.
Song: loud crowing, croaking alarm call.
