23-25 cm (9-10") Common in moist woodlands of Pacific Northwest. Stragglers wander east in the winter.
Dark upperparts; reddish orange underparts; orange line behind eye; two orange wing bars; dark breast band.
Male: grayish blue upperparts and a broad black breast band.
Female: similar to American Robin but has wing bars and clear throat.
Feeds mostly on ground but may come to feeders.
Song: series of clear trills on varied pitches; low "tuck" call.
