White-eared Hummingbird

10 cm (4") Rare summer visitor from Mexico to Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Male: similar to Broad-billed hummer. Bill is red but shorter and it has a broad and long white stripe behind the eye. Also tail is more square-tipped.

Female: similar to female Broad-billed hummer but throat is distinctly spotted unlike the uniform throat of the female Broad-bill's.
