American White Ibis

Eudocimus albus

64 cm (25") Locally abundant in coastal marshes, swamps, fields, tidal mudflats and mangroves.

Large, white, long-legged, wader with a red face and long downcurved reddish bill. Small black wing tips usually not visible when bird is landed. Immature are brownish above, white below.

Flies by flapping and gliding with neck outstretched in long lines or V's. May soar in circles.

Wood Stork is larger and shows more black on wing. Mostly quiet.

Song: grunts.
