Wild Turkey

Meleagris gallopavo

122 cm (48") Fairly common throughout the United States; just enters southern Canada.

Gallinaceous or chicken-like ground bird. Open woods and wooded swamps. Head is naked, bluish with red neck wattles.

Roost in trees at night.

It has been restocked in much of its range.

Song: gobbling like that of domestic Turkey's.
