22 cm (9") Western United States. Deserts, chaparral, woodlands.

Gray-brown upperparts. Pale gray throat and breast. Pale yellow belly and undertail coverts. Rufous tail. Bill is shorter and thinner than similar Brown-crested Flycatcher.

Song: "prrt" and "prit-wheer".
