Also known as: Brent Goose
56-66 cm (22-26") Locally common. Arctic coast in summer, coastal bays in winter. Regular in Great Lakes region and Salton Sea. Small, stocky, short-necked sea goose. All-black head and bill; neck is black with white markings on either side, in western subspecies these patches join in front forming a white collar; grayish-brown upperparts; gray sides; black breast; white rump. Fly low over water in long lines.
Song: soft "rronk" calls.
