63-109 cm (25-43") Common and widespread. Lakes, bays, marshes, fields, parks. Black head with contrasting white chinstrap running from ear to ear; long black neck; brownish gray body, white undertail coverts. Size varies considerably between races; the smallest forms live farthest north, the largest, see Wawa Goose, in northern Ontario.
Song: musical honking given in V-shaped flight; males give "ahonk" and females harmonize the duet with a "hink".
