Cook's Petrel

33 cm (13") Rare. Pacific Ocean. Breeds off New Zealand. Back is uniformly gray without a contrasting cap. Dark pattern on wings and base of tail form an M-shape similar to much larger Buller's Shearwater. Stejneger's Petrel is nearly identical except for its dark contrasting cap. Both these petrels have fast erratic flight.
