8-10 cm (3-4") Common. Coniferous forests in summer, other forests as well in winter.
Tiny plump bird with a bright striped crown. Two white wing bars. Broad white eyebrow stripe. Grayish-olive upperparts; whitish underparts.
Male: central orange crown stripe bordered by a stripe of yellow and black.
Female: yellow central crown stripe.
Habit of flicking wings.
Song: high thin "ti-ti", followed by tumbling chatter.
