Hudsonian Godwit

Limosa haemastica

33-41 cm (13-16") Uncommon. In summer Tundra; in migration, beaches, mudflats, marshes.

Crow-sized shorebird. Long, slightly upcurved, two-toned bill - pink at base, black at tip; long grayish legs. 

Summer: brown above; reddish brown below with variable barring.

Winter: grayish above, pale below. Similar Marbled Godwit has buffy wing linings, dark rump.

In flight, white rump, black tail, white wing-stripe, black underwings.

Song: loud "quee-quip".
