15 cm (6") Fairly common. Southwestern United States; Arizona, southwestern New Mexico, western Texas. Pine-oak canyons, pinyon-juniper forests. An active flycatching warbler like the American Redstart.
Black back, wings and tail. Black head, throat and upper breast. Bright red belly. Large white wing patch and white on outer edge of tail.
Song: warbles, whistled "chee" call.
