Red-breasted Sapsucker

Sphyrapicus ruber

22 cm ( 8") Fairly common. Western United States and Canada. Pacific coastal coniferous and mixed forests. Not found east of Rockies.

All red head. Red breast. Large white wing patch. White rump.

Was considered a subspecies of the Yellow-bellied sapsucker.
