Whiskered Auklet

20 cm (8") Fairly common but local; nests in central Aleutians. Robin-sized. Dark overall with quail-like crest curling forward over head; three white facial plumes contrast against dark face; orange-red has white tip.

In winter, facial plumes are less distinct and bill is dusky.
