50 cm (19-20") Common in desert areas, scrubby grasslands, farmlands near Mexican border. Southcentral United States.
White at base of neck feathers difficult to see. Told from crows by thicker bill, wedge-shape tail and voice. Best told from Common Raven, in their narrow range of overlap, by voice.
Was called White-necked Raven.
Song: low croak but higher pitched than Common Raven.
