61 cm (24") Fairly common in northern tundra, coniferous forests, rocky coasts.
A large, completely black bird with a long, heavy bill. It is much larger than the American Crow.
In flight; shows a wedge-shaped tail (crows have squarish tails).
More solitary than crows with a more hawk-like flight.
Song: low frog-like croak "wonk-wonk".
