36 cm (14") Near extinction. Nests in Arctic tundra, migrates through Great Plains to South America. Has been seen most recently along Texas coast in spring.
Similar to much larger Whimbrel with a shorter thinner bill which is only slightly downcurved. Linings on its raised wings are a pale cinnamon.
Song: a "tee-dee-dee" or repeated "tee-dee".
