Long-billed Curlew

Also known as: sicklebird, sickle bird, candlestick bird

58 cm (23") Fairly common. Nests in western uplands, meadows, pastures. In migration and winter on beaches, salt marshes and grain fields. Rare along east coast.

Very long strongly downcurved bill. Unstreaked crown. Buffy cinnamon wing linings show in flight.

Song: loud ascending "cur-lew".
