Snowy Egret

51-69 cm (20-27") Common. Marshes, ponds, swamps, shores.

Medium-sized snow white heron with black bill, black legs, and yellow feet. Thin plumes on back, neck, and over breast.

Actively feeds by rushing about stirring up food with feet. Great Egret is much larger with yellow bill, Cattle Egret also has yellow bill, immature Little Blue Heron has two-toned gray-blue bill.

Once extensively hunted for its plumes, now recovered and expanding range.

Song: low croak.
