69-94 cm (27-37") Rare. From Asia. Casual to Alaska.
Very large dark raptor; huge yellow-orange bill.
In flight; shows large white shoulder patch on leading edge of wing and white thighs, white wedge-shaped tail.
Immature: lacks adult's white on leading edge of wing and its wedge-shaped tail is dark at end; white on underwings is blotchy like immature Bald Eagle's.
