66-89 cm (26-35") Very rare visitor from northern Eurasia to Greenland and outer Aleutians, where it has nested.

Very large raptor; dark overall except for short wedge-shaped white tail; pale brown head may appear whitish from a distance; undertail coverts are dark unlike Bald Eagle's.

Immature: similar to immature Bald Eagle but its neck is longer and tail is shorter.
