15 cm (6") Uncommon and local; nests on ground in spruce bogs, moist woodlands with dense understory.
Bold white eye ring. Male has a gray hood. Female's is brownish. Yellow lower breast, belly, and undertail coverts. Similar Mourning and MacGillivray's Warblers hop on the ground whereas this bird walks.
Song: loud "beecher beecher beecher beech", clear and jerky.
