Gray-cheeked Thrush

Catharus minimus

18-20 cm (7-8") Fairly common but shy. Boreal forests, tundra scrub; in migration other forests.

Uniformly dark gray-brown or olive-brown upperparts. Clear gray cheeks. Whitish underparts. Spotted breast. Told from Swainson's Thrush by lack of bold eye ring; from Veery by darker color and voice.

Song: descending notes similar to Veery's but thinner more nasal often inflected upward at the end; "wee-ah" call.
