A secretive dark thrasher with a strongly downcurved bill. Distinctive dark rusty undertail coverts. Similar California Thrasher has a lighter or tawny-buff undertail coverts and belly.
Song: varied melodies, "chideery" and "toit-toit-toit" calls.
