28 cm (11") Uncommon. Southwestern United States. Sparsely vegetated desert.

Pale grayish-brown upperparts. Long dark tail. Dark eyes. Plain light gray breast.

Runs swiftly across the desert with tail held high.

Song: loud and melodious, ascending call "tweeup".
