Thrashers are often called mimic thrushes because they are excellent songsters and like mockingbirds some mimic songs of other birds. All have long tails, strong legs, short wings, and rather drab plumage. Their slender, curved bills are used for eating insects, seeds, and berries. All prefer brushy habitats, wood margins, or residential areas. Sing loudly from exposed perches. Thrashers repeat phrases fewer times than mockingbirds.
