24 cm (9-10") Introduced from Mexico and established in southern Florida. Open woodlands, gardens.
Male: orange or yellow-orange head and underparts. Black back, throat, tail and black spots on breast. Orange-yellow patch on shoulder. White on black wings.
Female: black back, wings and tail. Yellowish head, shoulder patch and underparts. Black spots on breast.
Song: loud and varied piping and whistled notes.
