32 cm (13") Rare. Alaska. Accidental on both coasts.
Long legs, long bill.
In breeding: all black with white spotting on back and wings, deep red legs.
In fall and winter: gray overall with bright red legs.
In flight: long white rump wedge extends up back like a Dowitcher.
Song: loud "chu-weet".
