12 cm (5") Rarest warbler if not extinct. Southeastern United States swamps, lowlands. Last sightings were in Southern Carolina (I'on swamp).
Resembles Hooded Warbler. Male has a black cap and breast. Yellow forehead and chin. Yellow belly. White undertail coverts. Female is duller.
Song: distinctive series of buzzes on one pitch; similar to Northern Parula's.
