12 cm (5") Uncommon in northeastern United States; rare in southern Ontario. Gray birch and other young deciduous growth and in abandoned pastures.
Gray back. Yellow crown and wing patch. Black throat and ear patch. White below. Long slender bill.
Nests on ground.
Hybridizes with Blue-winged Warbler to produce Brewster's and Lawrence's Warblers.
Song: buzzy "beee bz bz bz".
