Red-eyed Vireo

Vireo olivaceus

15 cm (6") Found in most of North America except southwestern United States; abundant in eastern North America in deciduous forests, shade trees in residential areas, parks.

Gray cap; olive-green back; white below. Distinctive white eyebrow stripe - bordered on both sides by black; red eye. Lacks wing bars.

Persistent and cheerful singer. Heard more often than seen.

Song: short abrupt robin-like phrases repeated all day; "see me, hear me, see you, vireo".
