Help for "What colour PATTERN if any was shown on the BREAST ?"
When looking at birds note whether the breast is uniformly coloured or is streaked or spotted with colours. This knowledge is important in identifying many birds.
Streaked or barred refers to dark lines or striping of colours running downor across the breast i.e. below the neck area towards the belly.
It is usually obvious when the breast is heavily striped or barred. It may be necessary for some birds, especially small ones like warblers or sparrows, to look closely for this pattern. Try to distinguish between the breast being streaked or barred or spotted i.e. there are numerous round patches of dark colour. However, there may be only one central spot. Some birds, e.g. Song Sparrow, have a streaked breast converging on a central spot. The best choice here would be that the bird has breast streaking.
