Baird's Sandpiper

Calidris bairdii

18-20 cm (7-8") Fairly common. Nests on Tundra, migrates mostly inland through center of continent along beaches, wet fields, marshes, to winter in South America.

Sparrow-sized "peep" sandpiper. Wings extend past tail giving it a long, horizontal look; buff-brown upperparts and across breast, white belly; straight, black bill; black legs; dark rump. Similar White-rumped Sandpiper has a white rump.

Song: low raspy "kreep".
