Calidris ptilocnemis

23 cm (9") Fairly common. Pacific coast rocky shores. Breeds in Alaska tundra.

Plump. Long slightly downcurved bill. Legs greenish yellow.

Breeding; black patch on breast suggests a Dunlin but Dunlin's patch is lower on the belly.

In winter associates with Black Turnstones and Surfbirds on rocky shores.

Song: flicker-like "du-du-du".
