13 cm (5") Fairly common. Western United States, southwestern British Columbia. Mixed woodlands, chaparral, oak, pinyons, junipers.
Male: gray back. Black and white head. A small yellow spot between eye and bill. Black throat. White below. Streaked sides. Similar Black-and-white Warbler has a crown stripe and no yellow spot between bill and eye.
Female: brownish-gray upperparts. White below. Streaked sides. Similar Black-and-white Warbler has a crown stripe and white stripes on its back.
Song: buzzy "weezy weezy weezy weezy-weet".
