Yellow Warbler

Dendroica petechia

Also known as: Wild Canary

13 cm (5") Abundant throughout North America in wet habitats especially willow and alder thickets, orchards, and suburban shrubs.

A plump, short tailed, overall yellow warbler. Black eye contrasts on a uniformly yellow head.

Male: distinctive reddish streaks on yellow underparts.

Female: back, tail, and wings are yellowish-olive.

Similar Prothonotary Warbler has blue-gray wings.

Bobs its tail frequently.

Song: cheerful and bright "tsee tsee tsee tsee-ti-ti-wee" or "sweet sweet sweet I'm so sweet".
